F. David It looks like Cy knows exactly which direction music will head to in the near future. It could well be like this album: a well balanced mix of every possible musical genre. Favorite track: Hati Hati (feat. Sophia Davis).

Ex-Friendly This whole EP is quite extraordinary and unlike anything I've heard before. Effortlessly fresh, the Asian and African sounds mixed together beautifully. Funky, futuristic and ancient. Big ups Heard & Felt and Cy for coming good once again! Favorite track: Hati Hati (feat. Sophia Davis).

  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

30 copies pressed, each one lovingly cut in the New Zealand countryside by legendary lathe cutter Peter King, whose credits include the Beastie Boys and many others. See Peter cutting records here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG3u0Sh9PL4. Note that lathe cut records differ from pressed vinyl records. While more unique, they will also play with more surface noise.

about

Twisted Soul 'Always delving into something fresh and different this EP is a stunning return from Gorman, and an absolute must listen!'
Garth Trinidad, KCRW 'Big fan of Cy … Loving the new EP … will be in rotation.'
+ support from JJJ, Jamie Strong (Innovative Leisure), Kira Neris, Andrew Jervis (Bandcamp Weekly), Tahira, Simon Caldwell (Mad Racket), Daz-I-Kue, Le Mellotron, Jazzmadass, Dobo Marzov (Radio Varna), Stinky Jim (95bFM), Agent J (Groovement/Reform Radio), Kerem Gokmen (Dubmission WYEP), Ketch a Vibe, Spotify Fresh Finds.

Audio-visual, electronic-acoustic, spiritual-physical, vocal-instrumental. Multi-faceted Melbourne artist Cy Gorman represents these dualities and many more, with projects including sound and light spectrum therapy, virtual reality, film, projection mapping and most importantly for us, music.

Cy has explored the intersection of latin, beats and synths on his previous releases for Heard and Felt as well as remixes for Los Charly's Orchestra and recently San Lazaro (Hope Street Recordings). These releases have earned him praise and plays from Mixmag, Gilles Peterson, Jazzy Jeff, KCRW, Soil & Pimp Sessions, Richard Kingsmill (Triple J), Rob Luis (Tru Thoughts), Lance Ferguson, Toshio Matsuura, Jay Scarlett and Andrew Jervis.

On the Kupu Kupu EP, recorded in Melbourne, London and Bali, he turns his attention to more Asian influences. Hati Hati starts with a streetwise 808 beat which takes a summery turn with the addition of ukelele and vocals in both English and Indonesian ('hati hati kupu kupu' means 'take care butterfly'). The moody, epic Rasbhari Killah is like a Wu Tang-produced soundtrack for a Bollywood martial arts film. Hipgnosis mixes a more Afro-Cuban rhythm with some surprising samples for a tune that could be uptempo or downtempo depending on your perspective. An Ennio Styles edit keeps it raw and more on the uptempo side. Finally, Hold is a nearly acoustic ballad with some subtle electronic touches, like James Blake or Gabriel Garzon-Montano hit the chipmunk button.
